First Time Setup

🚀 Quick Start Guide

Key rule: The monitor activates through skin contact. Always put it on before attempting to pair — it won't be discoverable otherwise.
  1. Moisten the electrode areas
Wet the two electrode patches on the back of the strap with water before every use. This is essential for accurate readings every time.
  2. Attach the connector to the strap
Clip the sensor head onto the strap with the 'L' marker pointing to your left.
  3. Put on the strap and adjust fit
Position just below your pectoral muscles. Adjust until snug but comfortable, with both moist electrode areas firmly against your skin.
  4. Remove any existing Bluetooth pairing
Go to Phone Settings → Bluetooth. If the HRM is listed, tap "Forget This Device" — this is the #1 cause of connection failure.
  5. Open your fitness app and pair from within it
Navigate to the app's sensor or heart rate screen and let it discover the Chest HRM. Do not use your phone's main Bluetooth menu.
  6. Watch for the LED confirmation
Once connected, the white LED flashes for ~20 seconds then turns off — this is normal and confirms successful pairing.
  7. You're ready to train!
Heart rate displays in real time. For HRV, enable the R-R interval option within Elite HRV.

Connectivity

📱 Pairing Guide

⚠️ One connection at a time. The Chest HRM can only be connected to one device or app at a time. If your phone's system Bluetooth has claimed it, your watch or app will not be able to connect.

A) Fitness Apps (Strava, Polar Beat, Elite HRV, Zwift…)

  1. Wear the monitor — skin contact is required to power it on.
  2. Go to Phone Settings → Bluetooth. If the HRM is listed, tap ⓘ → Forget This Device.
  3. Open your fitness app and go to its heart rate or sensor pairing screen.
  4. Select the Chest HRM from the discovered devices list and confirm.
  5. Ensure no other apps or devices are connected at the same time.

B) Fitness Equipment (Bike Computers, Smart Watches, Gym Machines)

  1. Turn on your Garmin, Wahoo, Peloton, or other device.
  2. Navigate to the sensor or heart rate pairing menu on that device.
  3. Wear the Chest HRM and let the equipment discover it via ANT+ or Bluetooth.

C) Bluetooth vs ANT+

Both protocols broadcast at the same time — no mode switching needed. If one gives unstable readings, switch to the other from within your app. ANT+ is preferred for Garmin and Wahoo; Bluetooth is standard for most phone apps.

Self-Help

🔧 Common Issues & Solutions

Click any issue to expand the step-by-step fix.

Monitor won't pair / not detected by my app~2 min fix

Almost always caused by the phone's system Bluetooth holding the connection.

  1. Wear the monitor — skin contact powers it on.
  2. Go to Phone Settings → Bluetooth and tap Forget if the HRM is listed.
  3. Close and fully reopen your fitness app.
  4. Pair from the app's sensor/heart rate menu, not from system Bluetooth.
  5. Still failing? Try connecting via ANT+ if your device supports it.
Inaccurate or erratic heart rate readings~1 min fix

Poor electrode contact is the primary cause.

  • Moisten the electrodes before every session — dry pads cause noise and dropout.
  • Ensure both electrode patches are firmly against your skin and the strap is centered.
  • Check that the strap is snug, not loose — movement causes signal interference.
  • Try switching between ANT+ and Bluetooth.
  • If the battery is low (≤ 2.7–2.8V), replace it — dying batteries cause erratic readings.
  • A heavily worn strap may also need replacing.
Heart rate reading is unusually high (BPM spikes)~2 min fix

High BPM spikes are almost always a signal-quality issue, not a defect.

  • Switch between ANT+ and Bluetooth — try both.
  • Re-moisten the electrode pads thoroughly.
  • Reposition the strap so both electrodes make full skin contact.
  • If the problem persists, contact support — a replacement head unit typically resolves it.
Connected to phone Bluetooth but won't link to my watch or app~1 min fix

The Chest HRM supports one connection at a time — your phone has taken the slot.

  1. Open Phone Settings → Bluetooth.
  2. Find the HRM and tap Forget / Unpair.
  3. Always initiate pairing from your app or watch's sensor menu going forward.
No HRV or R-R interval data in Elite HRV~2 min fix

The Chest HRM fully supports R-R intervals. The Armband HRM does not.

  • Confirm you are using the Chest HRM, not the Armband model.
  • In Elite HRV, start a new recording and select the Chest HRM as the sensor source.
  • Ensure the HRM is not already connected to another app or device.
  • Check electrode moisture and strap positioning.
Inaccurate readings even after a new batterycontact us
  • Confirm the CR2032 is seated in the correct +/− orientation as marked on the unit.
  • Re-test with freshly moistened electrodes and correct strap position.
  • If still inaccurate, we'll send a replacement head unit at no cost. Contact us with your Order ID.
LED doesn't flash / monitor doesn't seem to turn on~1 min fix
  • The monitor only powers on via skin contact — wear it first.
  • Ensure the electrode areas are moist; dry skin can prevent activation.
  • If the LED still doesn't respond, replace the CR2032 battery.
  • If a new battery doesn't help, contact support for a warranty replacement.

Care Guide

🧼 Maintenance & Strap Care

⚠️ Do NOT machine wash or use cleaning chemicals on the strap. This damages the electrodes and makes them non-functional.

After Every Session

  • Rinse the strap under running water to remove sweat and salt.
  • Hang dry fully — never store while damp.
  • Wipe the sensor head with a damp cloth only.

Strap Lifespan

With regular use, straps last 6–18 months depending on sweat volume and care. Signs it needs replacing:

  • Erratic readings despite correct positioning and moist electrodes
  • Electrode patches appear worn, cracked, or discolored
  • Strap has lost elasticity and no longer stays snug
📌 Strap warranty note: Straps are consumable and not covered under warranty. The sensor head and battery are covered for 12 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

❓ FAQs

Does the Chest HRM support HRV and R-R intervals?

Yes! The Powr Labs Chest HRM captures R-R intervals for HRV tracking in apps like Elite HRV and Heart Graph. Note: the Armband HRM uses a different sensor and does not support HRV.

Bluetooth or ANT+ — or both?

Both, simultaneously. It broadcasts on Bluetooth 5.0 and ANT+ at the same time — compatible with smartphones, Garmin/Wahoo/Polar devices, Peloton, and most smart watches.

Why won't it connect to my watch even though it shows in my phone's Bluetooth?

The Chest HRM supports one active connection at a time. Go to Settings → Bluetooth → Forget the device, then pair from your watch or app's sensor menu directly.

How long does the battery last, and is replacement free?

Approximately 10 months with moderate use. Free replacement within 12 months at powr-labs.com/freebattery.

Is the strap under warranty?

No — straps are consumable. The sensor head and battery are covered for 12 months. Replacement straps are available on Amazon.

Why is my BPM spiking high or showing erratic numbers?

Dry electrodes are the most common cause. Always moisten the back of the strap before every use. Also try switching between ANT+ and Bluetooth, check the battery, and inspect the strap for wear.

The LED flashed briefly then went off — is that normal?

Completely normal. The white LED flashes for about 20 seconds after a successful connection, then turns off. You are still connected. If it goes off sooner, the connection dropped — re-initiate pairing.

Is it waterproof? Can I swim with it?

It is rated IP67 — handles sweat, rain, and brief submersion well. Not designed for continuous swimming.

New battery installed but readings still wrong — what now?

The sensor head may need replacing. Contact our team with your Amazon Order ID and we'll send a replacement unit at no cost.

What exactly is covered by the 12-month warranty?

Any hardware issue with the sensor head or battery within 12 months of purchase. If we can't resolve it by troubleshooting, we send a replacement. Email [email protected] with your Order ID.

Best Practices

⭐ Tips for Best Results

💧

Always Moisten First

Wet the electrode patches before every session. The single most effective step for accurate readings.

📐

Check Strap Position

Center just below your pectoral muscles with the 'L' marker on the left. A shifted strap is a leading cause of noise.

📱

Pair from the App

Always connect through your fitness app's sensor screen — never from your phone's main Bluetooth settings.

📡

Switch Protocols if Needed

ANT+ and Bluetooth are both active at all times. If one gives unstable readings, switch to the other from inside your app.

🧼

Rinse After Every Use

Run the strap under water after each session and hang dry. Salt buildup degrades electrode performance over time.
